Denny's runs over the California Exit Exam

This could be the greatest commentary on our priorities in society in 2009.

Today the California Exit Exam, a major (in our case, THE MAJOR) factor in API and AYP ratings, was given to Sophomores and Seniors that haven't passed it yet.  Well, that's sort of true, since a massive population decided that it would be more beneficial to stand in line a half hour to get into a "greasy spoon" to enjoy two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage, and two bacon.  Apparently hundreds of students braved the crowds (some multiple times) to enjoy the free Grand Slam that Denny's offered during their Super Bowl commercial.  It was the constant topic of conversation today, the day when we could be deciding whether or not we drift farther into the idiocy that is program improvement.  Add in the money we probably lost from ADA (Average Daily Attendance) and this could turn out to be a real lousy day.

I don't know if it is my older age, or just the simple fact that society can't stare itself in the mirror and work towards actually fixing the problems of education, but this really bugs me.
